I know I haven't quite captured the intricate, geometric, serial mass of intermingled and interdependent metal, cement, life and urban living of Rio de Janeiro but this is part of the inspiration for one of the pieces I will be submitting.

Birds, Animals and Flowering Plants
"Flowers, birds, grasses, and insects each have their own innate spirit. Only after one has actually determined the true nature of this spirit through observation should painting begin."—Itō Jakuchū
Ito Jakuchu (1716-1800) Ito Jakuchu made the sort of religious silk paintings that I draw a lot of inspiration from at the moment. Works like 'The Colourful Realm of Living Beings'. He was also responsible for some mosaic like works, large screen paintings broken into individually painted grids totalling over 85,000 squares.
It was one of these murals that inspired our communal chalk drawing today. I have a new love for this artists work.
